TRAUMA CARE
Healing Trauma, Breaking the Cycle of Violence
Trauma fuels the ongoing cycle of violence in DC, and by healing trauma we can break the cycle and stop the violence. Existing models of care do not reach the most impacted individuals or neighborhoods. Moreover, victims, survivors, and their loved ones have few options when looking for providers who look and sound like them and understand their background and pain.

Peace For DC is committed to delivering innovative trauma and mental health care to victims and survivors of violence. Drawing on proven models, we deliver best-in-class clinical care in the neighborhoods with the highest homicides rates.
Cognitive Behavioral Interventions (CBIs) have been proven as the gold standard for healing trauma, PTSD, and hypervigilance in people impacted by gun violence, making it an essential element to reduce gun violence in cities across the country. CBIs are at the heart of all of Peace For DC's programming. We deliver Roca's Rewire Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT) to students in DC high schools, to individuals and groups in community, and as part of the DC Peace Academy and our HEAL DC program.

We have begun to provide CBIs in partnership with Pathways2Power, through our Pathways2Peace school‑based services. We teach skills to high school students after school, and help them practice putting the lessons into action. We are equipping and empowering these Junior Peacemakers with the emotional skills they need to navigate challenges and lead with confidence. We are currently serving Thurgood Marshall Academy, Ballou High School, and Bard High School Early College, with expansion to more schools planned.
