CIVIC COALITION

Engaging Stakeholders & Amplifying Results

PHILANTHROPY DRIVES RESULTS

Reducing gun violence and building thriving communities requires coordinated efforts and adherence to a strategic plan. Civic Coalitions in other cities have proven to be more agile and innovative than government, being the catalyst for violence reduction and bringing together the public safety ecosystem in a data-driven and community-led manner.

Peace For DC is leading efforts to convene stakeholders from the philanthropy and business communities, among others, to accelerate the District's progress towards building peace. We know that private investment will enable speed and flexibility, as well as community ownership of solutions, and sustainability.  Government alone cannot provide this.

There are numerous examples of other cities that have harnessed the power of private investment to unleash the full potential of community providers, coupled with expert advice and transparent data.

Partnership For Safe and Peaceful Communities (PSPC) was started in 2016 by several Chicago foundations and has almost $100 million committed to gun violence reduction efforts.

PSPC coordinates giving and directs it to community nonprofits.  This has been effective in sustaining essential neighborhood violence reduction efforts. Another example is a civic coalition in Philadelphia that is driving results for that city.

Peace For DC is helping lead efforts to convene stakeholders from the philanthropy and business communities, among others, to accelerate the District's progress towards building peace.

Together we can accomplish this.  Let's get to work.
